Husky Technologies has been announced as the recipient of PLASTICS’ 2023 Innovation in Bioplastics Award by the Plastics Industry Association- PLASTICS. The announcement on October 4 was made during PLASTICS’ 8th annual online event called #BioplasticsWeek, which strives to raise awareness as well as provide education concerning bioplastics.

Husky was awarded for its hot runner system, known as UltraMelt, which is specifically designed for the efficient as well as sustainable injection moulding of bioresins, also known as biopolymers. It is well to be noted that injection moulding poses peculiar difficulties when working with biopolymers, which are made out of renewable biological resources, either totally or partially.

Husky states that UltraMelt effectively tackles these obstacles by utilising non-reactive areas along with stainless steel components. This approach helps to maintain the delicate chemistry of biopolymer materials while minimising degradation. In 2022, after undergoing extensive testing and improvement, UltraMelt went live in the marketplace. This groundbreaking solution altered the field of biopolymer melt delivery.

Patrick Krieger, who happens to be the Vice President of Sustainability at PLASTICS, congratulated on the good work done by Husky and acknowledged the achievement of the equipment company to receive an award from PLASTICS for their original technology in utilising more bioplastics.

He added that designing equipment is a complex task that requires a substantial investment. The amount of time and resources that Husky has invested in this technology highlights the significance and also the potential of bioplastics across the plastics sector.

John Galt, CEO of Husky, on behalf of the entire Husky team, expressed his gratitude to the Plastics Industry Association for bestowing upon them this esteemed honour. Bioplastics and advancements in circular polymer processing play a significant part in Husky’s sustainability strategy. They firmly believe that by collaborating as an industry, they can indeed transform challenges into opportunities. They look to showcase that the concept of the circular economy is not merely a trendy phrase but rather a real and practical approach. Polymers are extremely successful in preserving and protecting materials, in contrast to other substrates. They have the ability to be created into an infinite variety of shapes as well as sizes. They are both lightweight and unbreakable, and they happen to have the lowest overall environmental footprint. Polymers, in addition, are able to maintain low consumer costs.
