DHL Global Forwarding has announced the launch of a new $1.5 million pharmaceutical transportation facility at the Indianapolis International Airport. The 30,000-square-foot facility, strategically located with direct access to the airport ramp, enhances DHL’s existing ground handling operations by introducing the unit’s first temperature-controlled cargo service between Indianapolis and Brussels, Belgium. With a twice-weekly B777F air cargo freighter connection to Liege, Belgium, the new facility complements the company’s existing temperature-controlled life sciences facility in Plainfield, Indiana. The end-to-end process has been meticulously engineered to ship pharmaceuticals and life sciences products without the need for specialized temperature-controlled unit loading devices, ensuring quality control while delivering significant savings in transportation costs and time in transit. This expansion of DHL Global Forwarding’s operations in central Indiana further cements the region’s role as a vital hub for the development, manufacturing, and transportation services for the life sciences, health care, and pharmaceutical sectors.

DHL Global Forwarding is further extending its dedicated cold chain network in the U.S. market through this strategic investment. This follows recent advancements in two other life sciences hubs, namely San Juan, Puerto Rico, and North Carolina’s Research Triangle area. The company remains committed to strengthening its services in these key regions.
