Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Algerian president, went on to address participants at the African Ministerial Conference on Local Pharmaceutical Production and Health Technologies on November 27, 2025, with his message being read by Sifi Ghrieb, the prime minister.
The event, which was hosted by Algeria at the request of the World Health Organization – WHO, went on to recognize the achievements as well as reforms when it comes to the African pharma sector.
President Tebboune, in his message, went on to note that Algeria is home to more than one-third of the pharmaceutical establishments in the continent, with almost 230 out of 649 African factories that are located within the country, alongside over 100 new projects that are under development. He stressed the fact that Algeria has gone on to designate the pharmaceutical sector as a strategic sector and also a national priority in order to strengthen the health security, which includes the creation of a dedicated ministry.
Underscoring the commitment of Algeria to continental development and also the African Pharma Sector, Tebboune went on to stress that hosting the conference indeed reflects Algeria’s vision of an integrated Africa. He further added that the Algiers Declaration, which is going to conclude the conference, looks forward to serving as a pact among the African nations in order to make the continent self-sufficient when it comes to its medicine production.
