Prestigious new Director will help PrescQIPP continue to deliver medicines optimisation opportunities and value for money to the NHS

PrescQIPP celebrates its first decade of helping commissioners to ensure that thousands of NHS patients get the best medicines for their condition, whilst saving the NHS millions by providing evidence-based expertise and advice on the prescribing and use of medicines.

Julie Wood, former CEO of NHS Clinical Commissioners, has joined the PrescQIPP Board as a Non-Executive Director, providing the already successful, not-for-profit organisation with valuable expertise to ensure PrescQIPP continues to deliver its successful medicines optimisation resources and provide the NHS with value for money.

Julie Wood said: “In nearly 40 years of serving the NHS, I have developed a keen interest in medicines issues and optimisation. As Chief Executive of NHS Clinical Commissioners, I worked closely with PrescQIPP for several years. They play a fundamental role in supporting the transformation of medicines optimisation across the CCG landscape, and have helped many NHS organisations and clinicians to address the issues they face with regard to optimising medicines for their patients.

“My immediate retirement plan was all mapped out, and I was ready to look for some Non-Executive roles after a period of relaxation and excursions to warmer climates after more than three decades of hard work. When I was approached about the opportunity to work with PrescQIPP it really fitted with what I wanted to do as it’s very important to me to be part of something that makes a positive difference to people, and where I feel I can truly add value.”

Julie has spent her career dedicated to the NHS and doing whatever she can, both locally and nationally, to help ensure the best care possible is delivered to patients and the population, whilst at the same time achieving value for money.

This includes the effective use of medicines and prescribing, helping to make sure that patients receive optimum treatment and outcomes, and ensuring that the NHS pays no more for medicines than it needs to.

Carol Roberts, PrescQIPP’s founder and Chief Executive, said: “It’s a huge endorsement for our organisation that Julie has joined PrescQIPP as one of our Non-Executive Directors and I am delighted to welcome Julie onto our Board. She brings not only her vast experience of the NHS, but also her passion for medicines optimisation and drive to ensure the NHS, patients and taxpayers get the most value from the medicines we prescribe.

“Julie’s insight into the changing architecture of the NHS will also be invaluable helping us to keep track of medicines optimisation teams and their latest challenges, so we can continue to support them, responding effectively to their needs and adding value to the system.”

Since its establishment in 2010, PrescQIPP has helped NHS clinical commissioners to ensure that patients get the right medicines for their condition at the same time as saving the NHS £millions. See notes to editors for more information.
