Taiwan-based papermaking and printing group E Ink Holdings has collaborated with smartphone manufacturer HTC and pharmaceutical packaging solution provider Palladio Group to develop smart packaging label for internet of things (IoT) based healthcare services.
Â
The three companies will work together to reduce medication non-adherence, which is a common issue contributing to poor patient outcomes and declining healthcare resources.
As part of the collaboration, E Ink has developed a smartphone-based packaging label that displays various personalised content related to a patient’s medication.
The displayed contents, such as barcode, quick response (QR) code, multi-language text message and graphics, can be used in the packaging label as a communication interface.HTC’s medication management software, developed as part of the partnership, also allows real-time medication consumption tracking, symptom and side effects disclosure, and treatment outcome evaluation.
HTC healthcare president Dr Edward Chang said: “Our artificial intelligence technology is the backbone of the platform, aiming to improve treatment effectiveness and, eventually, a personalised medication solution in the near future.â€
By using the software, patients will be able to receive detailed information about their health status from the healthcare team and can refill their prescription through the software platform.
E Ink’s smart packaging label is also compatible with many wireless communication protocols, including BLE, WiFi, ZigBee and others.Last October, Palladio Group and E Ink had jointly launched an advanced packaging solution, PhutureMed, to pack pharmaceutical products.
