Integromics launches OmicsHub Proteomics 2.0., a data management and analysis tool for mass spectrometry laboratories and core facilities

Integromics, a market leader in IT solutions provision for life sciences in the field of genomics and proteomics, today announces the availability of OmicsHub(R) Proteomics 2.0, a new version of the OmicsHub product adding several new features to its existing centralized data management and analysis capabilities for mass spectrometry laboratories and core facilities. OmicsHub Proteomics 2.0 is a result of extensive research by Integromics into the needs of mass spectrometry laboratories and core facilities. Resulting from this research, Integromics inserted several new features and benefits specifically requested by central figures in the market, including: protein quantification, protein validation, a pathway viewer, automatic reports, an OMSSA search engine, background importation and user roles and permissions.

The web-based multi-user, centralized data management and analysis OmicsHub platform will allow users to address the poor reliability and human error issues and time and data management complexity associated to mass spectrometry experiments. It addresses the problems that most mass spectrometry laboratories and core facilities encounter on a daily basis by performing automatic tasks such as batch searches on multiple search engines (Mascot, Phenyx, OMSSA), label-free protein quantification, protein validation and functional annotation (UniProt, InterPro, GO, Panther, etc.), pathways integration or automated report generation, resulting in reduced errors, time and data management complexity.

OmicsHub Proteomics is the first product available on the market that allows mass spectrometry researchers to create experiments in a PRIDE XML format for tandem MS based experiments (MS/MS) as well as for peptide mass fingerprinting experiments (MS) or combine experiments (MS+MS/MS).

OmicsHub(R) Proteomics 2.0 is the latest product committing Integromics to the proteomics marketplace. The global market for proteomics has increased from USD 6.7 billion in 2008 to an estimated USD 7.9 billion in 2009 and has been forecast to rise to USD 19.4 billion in 2014, for a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19.7 per cent. Proteomics equipment was valued at USD 4.1 billion in 2008, an estimated USD 4.8 billion in 2009 and is expected to increase to USD 13.0 billion in 2014 – a CAGR of 22 per cent. In addition, proteomics technologies, where Integromics are concentrating their current efforts, were worth USD 1.3 billion in 2008 and an estimated USD 1.5 billion in 2009. This segment is expected to increase at a CAGR of 13.9 per cent to reach USD 2.9 billion in 2014. (BCC Research, BIO034B, June 2009)

“Integromics has committed to solving problems found on a daily basis in mass spectrometry laboratories and core facilities. OmicsHub Proteomics 2.0 is a result of listening to the needs of our users, meeting those needs and helping our users become more productive,” said Dr. Michael J. McManus, CEO, Integromics. “We will continue to position ourselves in the proteomics market and address the needs of MS laboratories and core facilities as they evolve.”

About OmicsHub Proteomics

Integromics designed OmicsHub Proteomics to be a central mass spectrometry data management system to collect, identify, annotate and conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis. Designed as an end to end server solution for mass spectrometry lab infrastructures, it has a web-based interface for multi-user access. Users can both complete tasks automatically or maintain manual control until final validation. OmicsHub Proteomics supports both LC–MSMS and 2D-gel workflows and can be easily extended to meet custom laboratory needs. Identified proteins obtained as a result of PMF and/or PFF in the commonly used search engines (Mascot, Phenyx and/or OMSSA) are processed by OmicsHub Proteomics to remove any redundancies automatically. Biological information extracted from a dynamic list of sources, including pathways information, can be used to annotate the resulting proteins. This enables better understanding of the protein’s role according to a specific experiment and/or project.

Proteomics data can be exported in PRIDE format enabling lab users to share, publish and report their experimental results. When providing services externally, automatic HTML reports including descriptive images can also be generated by OmicsHub Proteomics.
