Drug delivery innovation across Europe improves for third consecutive year ahead of Pharmapack Europe

Ahead of Pharmapack Europe 2021 (Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, 13-14 October) – the returning European event dedicated to drug packaging and delivery – there has been a huge swathe of innovation across the industry, with more than 53 FDA approvals in 2020 and 26 approvals in 2021.

In fact, since February 2020 when the event was held last, the Pharmapack Innovation Index – a reputation score carried out amongst the industry ranking the most innovative drug delivery markets – shows that the industry has continued to see a rise in innovation across the major European markets (Switzerland, Germany, UK, France, Italy and Spain). Most impressively, Italy (6.63) secured a 4% year-on-year improvement in 2020, while Germany (7.70) and Switzerland (7.56) have retained their position as preeminent European innovation markets. Outside of Europe, the United States (8.09) and Japan (7.56) consolidated their positions as leading hubs of global drug delivery innovation.

Pharmapack Europe will release the 2021 Innovation Index just prior to the event in October 2021, alongside a detailed new report covering current and future trends in drug delivery and packaging.

“It has been more than a year since the last Pharmapack event was held and we have seen tremendous innovation in the market during that time. It’s one of reasons we are so excited to return as we can bring together the Pharma packaging community and help foster partnerships so they can accelerate these innovations to patients. In particular we are looking forward to the return of the Pharmapack awards and the latest innovations exploring eco-friendly and patient-centric solutions released to market,” commented Sherma Ellis Daal, Brand Manager at Pharmapack Europe.

Entries for the 2021 Pharmapack Awards are now open across both the ‘Exhibitor Innovation’ and ‘Health Products’ categories with a closing date of 30th June 2021. Winners will be unveiled live on the first evening of Pharmapack (October 13th, 2021). The Health Products category, comprising the eco design award and the patient-centric design award, is open to any visitor at the event, but submissions must have market authorization from a qualified national authority for a newly commercialized medicinal product after December 2019. The patient-centric design award will be evaluated by a jury of independent pharmacists, physicians and experts in patient-centric and sustainable packaging. Judges will evaluate and score entries on how they help improved patient adherence, prevent dosage errors, and enhance the ease of use for the patient or caregiver. The eco-design award, in partnership with Adelphe and HPRC, will commend entries that help reduce carbon footprints, are recyclable and/or showcase intuitiveness of use and appeal.

Finally, the Exhibitor Innovation award will showcase all entries in the Innovation Gallery. Entrants will present their latest innovative solutions, in proof of concept or prototype stage,

in packaging materials, primary or secondary packaging, cool chain packaging and drug delivery solutions, new processing or machinery solution which were recently launched or patented since January 2020. Awards in this category will be evaluated by a jury of decision-makers involved in R&D and in the selection of packaging and drug delivery solutions for pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies.

Following the strict Informa Markets AllSecure protocols delivering a safe and secure environment, Pharmapack Europe will host to a maximum of 5,000 attendees and 410 exhibiting companies across a two-day in-person event. All content will be hosted online and can be viewed from 27 September – 15 October 2021. About Pharmapack

Launched in 1997, Pharmapack is the European event for Pharmaceutical Packaging, Drug Delivery, Medical Devices and Machinery. Pharmapack started as a biennial conference and exhibition, taking place every other year in Paris, until industry developments demanded a more frequent event to help the industry stay up to date on the latest trends, developments and regulations. In the past 20+ years, the event has grown from a conference with a small table-top exhibition, to an event hosting 411 exhibitors and welcoming 5,290 attendees over 2 days. In 2020, Pharmapack also featured the International Meetings Programme (business matching), an International Meetings Programme, full 2-day Conference, 1-day Symposium, Workshops, Learning Lab presentations, Awards ceremonies, a Start-up Hub, Innovation Gallery and Tours.
