SpiceXpress, the cargo division of India-based carrier SpiceJet, has partnered with Om Logistics to strengthen its capabilities to transport temperature-sensitive Covid-19 vaccines.

The carrier said the partnership aims to provide a “speedy, seamless and reliable solution” for the movement of Covid-19 vaccines and “create a sustainable cold chain network” – both domestically in India and internationally.

The partnership will see SpiceXpress providing its airfreight resources, while Om Logistics will provide its refrigerated trucks to cover the first and the last mile of the vaccines’ journey.

SpiceXpress, which operates a fleet of 17 freighter aircraft (many of them pax-freighters) between 54 domestic and 45 international destinations, has also teamed up with other cold chain solution businesses for active and passive packaging.

The carrier said its cold chain partnerships, which enable it to use dedicated equipment across its network, can help it to to perform “seamless cold chain operations”. Moreover, it added that it is ready for the “enormous task” of distributing vaccines.

Earlier this month, SpiceXpress launched its specialised Spice Pharma Pro service, which can transport temperature-sensitive drugs, vaccines blood samples and medicines at controlled temperatures ranging from -40°C to 25°C.

The launch of Spice Pharma Pro came after SpiceXpress helped to transport essential goods and medical supplies into and around India throughout the pandemic, as well as helping to maintain the country’s supply chains.

The carrier also offers has a network of warehouses equipped with deep freezers to support cool packs, ground vehicles and containers in transporting temperature-sensitive cargo.
