Integrated Inspection Systems for Leak Detection in Pharma

The pharmaceutical industry is increasingly moving toward a more holistic approach to quality control by combining various inspection technologies into a single, unified platform. Integrated inspection systems for leak detection in pharma offer a multi-faceted solution that simultaneously addresses cosmetic defects, particulate contamination, and container closure integrity. By merging high-speed visual cameras with sensitive high-voltage leak detection modules, these systems provide a comprehensive assessment of every unit, ensuring that each dose of medication is contained within a perfectly sealed and sterile environment. This integration not only reduces the risk of secondary contamination but also significantly improves the overall efficiency and reliability of the manufacturing process.

Advancing Pharma Quality with HV Leak Detection Tools

Maintaining the highest standards of pharmaceutical quality is a fundamental requirement for the safe delivery of injectable medications. The development of advancing pharma quality with HV leak detection tools represents a major leap forward in the deterministic testing of container closure integrity. By utilizing sophisticated sensors and high-voltage electrical fields, these tools can detect microscopic structural defects that would otherwise compromise the sterility of life-saving products. This high-sensitivity approach significantly enhances the accuracy of the inspection process, providing manufacturers with a robust solution for ensuring packaging integrity and regulatory compliance.

At All4Pack (14-17 November, Paris Nord Villepinte Exhibition Park) Marchesini Group will exhibit two stanBL  A420 CW and Farplus C and a blister lined-alone machines: : Integra 520 V.

Integra 520 V is an integrated robotic line for packaging blisters in cartons. It is compact and measures just 10 meters. It has a completely balcony-design structure made up of two sections: a thermoformer and a cartoner, which can produce up to 520 blisters and up to 500 cartons a minute. In addition to the novelties of the previous version 320, this solution has an innovative pusher, a drum-type carton opening system to manage very high speeds and a new leaflet pick-up and insertion system. The end result is a perfect solution for single blister packs. Quick and straightforward cleaning and size change-over is ensured because the product loading zone is separated from the electrical and mechanical zone. The latter is enclosed within oil bath systems to offer greater resistance to wear and tear and consequently a much longer service life.

At stand 6L032, customers and professionals will be able to take a look at the new labeller BL A420 CW for Track&Trace requirements developed by Neri. This branch of Marchesini Group specialises in carton labelling and tracking machines.

The model exhibited combines the consolidated strongholds of this machine (versatility and reliability). A load cell is fully integrated into its stepper conveyance system and is able to check the weight of each carton. This solution is much more compact than the classic solution (where the weighing unit is coupled in-line) and than the version of main competitors of the market, who offer solutions having weighing units with their own independent conveyance system. By integrating the load cell into the toothed belt system of the BL A420 CW, it is able to verify the position of the cartons at all times: if the weight is correct, the product undergoes the subsequent processes (serialization, marking and sealing), then it is sent to the next machine; if on the other hand the weight is not correct, the subsequent processes are skipped and the carton is rejected, according to the “Fail Safe” operating logic.

Farplus C is the third solution that Marchesini Group will be exhibiting at the tradeshow. It is a new automatic, ergonomic and easy-to-clean overwrapper. It has a Robocombi product infeed and a product bypass system off the machine to ensure non-stop production. It can process 80 packages a minute. Farplus C is ideal for packaging cosmetics thanks to the variety and high quality of the possible types of seals – from standard seal to pack single and grouped products, such as all shapes and sizes of perfumes, to spot and easy-to-open tear tape seal.

The Robocombi acts as the “technological link” between the machine upstream and that from where the cartons arrive and the Farplus C. The sucker arm, which has become a known trait of Marchesini Group, picks and places the incoming box onto the infeed belt that will take it to the overwrapping station. Once it has been placed on the toothed belt, the carton positions itself automatically and is pushed against the film.

The film wraps around the box thanks to the movement of a set of comb-like units.

The film folding station can be adjusted according to the various sizes. The Farplus C unit comes in a standard version with side containment belts and in an optimised version for cosmetics, which has holding plates for spot-sealing.
