The University of Sydney has revealed that the New South Wales (NSW) state will contribute $143.3 million over four years to the construction of a world-class health and technology centre in Sydney. The Sydney Biomedical Accelerator (SBA) will be a cutting-edge biomedical research facility that will combine fundamental, clinical, and patient-centered studies to accelerate real-world healthcare outcomes. It will be a collaboration between the NSW Government, Sydney Local Health District, and University of Sydney, as well as a premier medical research facility, the Centenary Institute, and will be housed within the Tech Central area.

As part of a hospital, university, and technological innovation ecosystem, the SBA will offer a different global density of biomedical research expertise and research resources, and will be poised to dynamically work with industry and start-ups. Professor Robyn Ward of the University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health said the Sydney Biomedical Accelerator would foster collaborative efforts among world-class doctors, scientists, engineers, computer scientists, entrepreneurs, and research and industry partners.

The Sydney Biomedical Accelerator will begin construction this year, with initial occupancy scheduled for 2026.
