VSP and KLINGER join for a sustainable world: PITA

Sustainable engineering is more than a buzzword in today’s industry 4.0. Zero leakage, the reduction of fugitive emissions and environmentally safe manufacturing have become top priorities for both end users and producers.

Timely for Achema18 the two major global players KLINGER and VSP concluded a global collaboration agreement to make the PITA® technology seeminglessly available at a worldwide scale. PITA® was so far only introduced in North America, with leading multinationals within the Chemical industry using PITA® such as Dupont, Eastman, Westlake, Celanese, Honeywell, Chemours, Axiall, Ascend and Arkema, among others.

“VSP is as much quality and service focused as we are”, explains Hans Houmark, Business Development Excutive at KLINGER Dichtungstechnik, “we both are driven by increasing efficiency and total cost of ownership for our clients. Additionally, as sustainability is a core value of KLINGER´s Engineering for the Future, PITA® is a solution fitting perfectly into that approach.”

Growing markets such as China have also increased their demand for lower fugitive emissions due to major multinational companies supporting these kind of environment improving initiatives. “PITA® will benefit from the significant worldwide footprint and engineering expertise of KLINGER to introduce PITA® through their worldwide network”, summarizes Reid Meyer, Director Engineered Products of VSP Technologies.

PITA®: from conventional ePTFE to “spring energized” PTFE gasket
VSP developed PITA® technology in 2005 to solve a common sealing need in gasketed connections: reliable long-term low emission sealing. Results have shown that PITA® provides one of the tightest sealing products ever created. The Patented PITA® construction
results in a 100% expanded PTFE gasket with a fully encapsulated corrugated, stainless steel insert. Patented construction transforms conventional ePTFE into a “spring energized” PTFE gasket that maintains high tightness throughout thermal cycling in all chemical services.

PITA® Core product characteristics

  • High Maintained Tightness in Thermal Cycling Systems
  • More Robust for Ease of Installation
  • No Adhesive = No Volume Loss for Greater Margin of Safety Against Blow-out
  • Zero Process Contamination
  • Improved Low Torque/Low Stress Sealability & Lower Relaxation & Torque Loss
  • ePTFE Seals Against Rough Flanges
  • Mechanical Integrity at High Temperatures
  • Suitable for Cryogenic Service

PITA®, as an environmentally safe and focused product, is another example of KLINGER’s worldwide drive to increase sustainability; through environmentally safe design to bringing down fugitive emissions.
